What Cline is
Cline is an open-source coding agent runtime for developers working in IDEs, terminals, scripts, cron jobs, CI pipelines and embedded products. It can be used with a developer’s own model keys, endpoints or weights. The page also announces ClinePass, a plan for open-weights models.
Cline coordinates multi-file edits, with linter-aware fixes, diffs, checkpoints and undo. It runs bash commands in a terminal and responds to the output. Developers can use Plan mode for strategy and Act mode for execution. Through its SDK, Cline can register custom tools and lifecycle hooks, and connect to MCP servers.
