Thinkific vs Teachable (2026): What ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini Say
AI models name Thinkific in 48 of 50 answers and Teachable in 40. Model-by-model counts across 10 models, plus where each product fits.
Thinkific is named more often. AI models name Thinkific in 48 of 50 recorded answers and Teachable in 40. Thinkific is named first in 14 answers, Teachable in 10. No model in the panel names Teachable more often than Thinkific, and both sit behind Kajabi. This page counts what the models name. It does not rate either product.
TL;DR
- In every one of the 10 models, Thinkific is named at least as often as Teachable. None of them leans the other way.
- Teachable’s coverage is flat across providers: Teachable 80% in each model family. Thinkific’s gaps sit with GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude.
- Placement is close. When named, Teachable sits marginally earlier on average, at 2.53 against Thinkific’s 2.58.
- Teachable’s own pages feed more of the answers. The models cite teachable.com 19 times and support.teachable.com 9 times, against 8 for thinkific.com.
- Kajabi, named in all 50 answers, is the category’s most-named platform and the reference point for both.
How often do AI models recommend Thinkific and Teachable?
Thinkific appears in more answers and opens more answers. Teachable, when it does appear, is placed about as early.
| Product | Named | Answer share | Named first | First share | Average position | Category rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kajabi (category leader, reference) | 50/50 | Kajabi 100% | 15/50 | Kajabi 30% | 2.3 | 1 |
| Thinkific | 48/50 | Thinkific 96% | 14/50 | Thinkific 28% | 2.58 | 2 |
| Teachable | 40/50 | Teachable 80% | 10/50 | Teachable 20% | 2.53 | 3 |
“Named” means the product appears in the answer. “Named first” means it appears before any other tracked product. Average position is its mean place in the order of tracked products an answer names, so lower is earlier.
The gap between them is a coverage gap more than a placement gap. Thinkific shows up in nearly every answer and leads on first mentions by 14 to 10. Its average position of 2.58 is no better than Teachable’s 2.53, though. When a model names Teachable, it puts it about as high on the list.
Both are named far more often than they are named first. The named-versus-first gap is 68 points for Thinkific and 60 for Teachable. Most answers place one of them inside a longer shortlist rather than opening with it. Every model names Kajabi in all five of its answers, which is why Kajabi sits in the reference row. The full category record, with every answer, is on the course platforms index.
Which models prefer Thinkific, and which prefer Teachable?
No model names Teachable more often than Thinkific. Thinkific is ahead in most models and level in GPT-5.6 Sol, Claude and Gemini. “Prefer” here means names more often. The panel measures presence in answers, not a stated preference.
| Model | Family | Thinkific | Teachable | Leans |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GPT-5.6 Sol | OpenAI | 4/5 | 4/5 | Level |
| ChatGPT (GPT-5.6 Terra) | OpenAI | 5/5 | 4/5 | Thinkific |
| GPT-5.6 Luna | OpenAI | 5/5 | 4/5 | Thinkific |
| Claude Opus 5 | Anthropic | 5/5 | 4/5 | Thinkific |
| Claude (Claude Sonnet 5) | Anthropic | 4/5 | 4/5 | Level |
| Claude Fable 5 | Anthropic | 5/5 | 4/5 | Thinkific |
| Gemini (Gemini 3.6 Flash) | 5/5 | 5/5 | Level | |
| Gemini 3.5 Flash | 5/5 | 3/5 | Thinkific | |
| Perplexity (Sonar Pro) | Perplexity | 5/5 | 4/5 | Thinkific |
| Sonar Reasoning Pro | Perplexity | 5/5 | 4/5 | Thinkific |
The sharpest split is inside Google. Gemini names Teachable in all 5 of its answers (Teachable 100%), the only model to do so. Gemini 3.5 Flash names it in 3 of 5 (Teachable 60%), Teachable’s lowest per-model count in the panel. Both Gemini models name Thinkific every time.
OpenAI and Anthropic are where Thinkific drops answers. GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude each name it in 4 of 5, which leaves Thinkific 93.3% in both of those families. In the Google and Perplexity families it reaches Thinkific 100%.
Perplexity’s Sonar models behave alike. Both name Thinkific in every answer and Teachable in 4 of 5.
Teachable’s family numbers are unusually even. The high and low Gemini counts cancel out, leaving Teachable 80% in OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Perplexity alike. No provider family leaves Teachable out more than another. Thinkific’s lead is therefore not the product of one provider. It comes from small margins in most models.
What do the answers say about each?
The models frame Teachable around a quick launch with little assembly, and Thinkific around the course itself. Five recorded answers show the pattern.
“Choose Teachable if you want to launch a polished, standalone course business without assembling a stack of tools.”
ChatGPT (GPT-5.6 Terra), answering the first prompt.
“Great for beginners. Simple drag-and-drop course builder, handles hosting, payments, and basic marketing (coupons, affiliates) with minimal setup.”
Claude (Claude Sonnet 5), describing Teachable.
“Thinkific is my default recommendation if your main product is an online course.”
GPT-5.6 Luna, answering the first prompt.
“I’d recommend Thinkific as the best default choice because it’s repeatedly positioned as the overall winner or a top pick, offers a free plan”
Perplexity (Sonar Pro), answering the second prompt.
“traditional self-paced LMS tools (like basic Teachable or Thinkific) often fall short unless paired with third-party software.”
Gemini (Gemini 3.6 Flash), answering the cohort-course prompt.
The Perplexity answer is worth checking before you act on it. Podia’s comparison states that Thinkific dropped its free plan. FreshLearn’s comparison says Teachable, Thinkific and Kajabi now offer trials only. A model that repeats an older plan line is still counted as naming Thinkific, because the panel counts names, not accuracy.
How do Thinkific and Teachable differ?
They differ most on how each charges and on what each limits. The vendor records hold no pricing or audience field for either product. Every pricing and audience line below comes from the captured comparison pages.
Pricing model
Thinkific’s plans carry no platform transaction fee when you use Thinkific Payments. FreshLearn reports a penalty fee on each sale if you use another payment processor. Thinkific allows unlimited courses on every plan. Every Thinkific plan still caps the number of students.
Teachable’s entry Starter plan takes a transaction fee on each sale. Teachable drops that fee on the Builder plan. Every Teachable plan limits the number of products you can publish.
The cost comparison has moved. Podia’s page says that once the Starter fee is counted, Thinkific can work out cheaper depending on revenue.
Who each is for
Podia’s comparison says Thinkific suits structured programmes such as professional training or certifications. FreshLearn points Thinkific at creators whose priority is delivering a strong learning experience.
Podia’s comparison says Teachable is worth considering for the lowest fixed monthly cost and a small number of courses. FreshLearn points Teachable at a new solopreneur or hobbyist testing a first course.
Other recorded differences
Thinkific’s entry plan includes a community. Teachable no longer supports its community feature, according to Podia. Teachable has built-in affiliate tools. Thinkific has no built-in blog, according to the same page.
What the models name each for
The answers attach Teachable to selling. ChatGPT’s shortlist table lists Teachable for most solo creators selling straightforward courses, with strong checkout and built-in selling tools. The answers attach Thinkific to teaching. GPT-5.6 Luna ties it to video courses, quizzes, assignments, memberships and multiple pricing tiers.
When should you pick Thinkific?
Pick Thinkific if the course is the product and you want room to add more of them.
- Every model in the panel names it in at least 4 of 5 answers, so it rarely drops off an AI shortlist in this sample.
- Plan to build many courses? Thinkific allows unlimited courses on every plan.
- Taking payments through Thinkific Payments avoids a platform transaction fee.
- Structured programmes fit here: Podia’s page credits Thinkific with prerequisite lessons, video completion requirements and cohort options.
- Selling through a Shopify store points this way too. The Creative Curator’s review singles out Thinkific’s Shopify integration.
Check the student cap and the missing blog, both set out above, before committing.
When should you pick Teachable?
Pick Teachable if you are launching a small first catalogue and want selling tools in the box.
- A low fixed monthly cost with only a few courses is the case Podia’s page describes for Teachable.
- Testing a first course before a bigger investment matches FreshLearn’s Teachable profile.
- Affiliate selling is built in.
- For EU sales, Kindlepreneur’s review credits Teachable with automatic VAT MOSS collection.
- Coverage across AI providers is even, at Teachable 80% in every model family.

How this sits against the Thinkific vs Teachable guides
The captured guides compare features and prices, and most carry a commercial interest. None reports what AI models say.
The Creative Curator is a first-hand account from a creator who has used both platforms. Its author now hosts her own courses on Thinkific. The page carries an affiliate disclosure. Its Teachable plans are listed as Basic, Pro and Pro+. Podia’s newer page lists Starter, Builder and Growth instead.
Kindlepreneur loaded the same course onto both platforms and scored them feature by feature. It concludes that Thinkific is the better platform in most scenarios. Its author states he has affiliate links for both. Its pricing table still shows a free version of Thinkific. It also credits Teachable with automatic EU VAT handling that Thinkific lacked. FreshLearn’s newer page lists tax remittance in Thinkific’s checkout.
FreshLearn’s page is published by a rival course platform. It compares Teachable, Thinkific and Kajabi, then presents FreshLearn as the alternative.
Podia’s page is written by a Podia content marketer. It states its pricing was verified in September 2026. It closes by positioning Podia as the fit for creators both platforms leave short.
This page does a different job. It counts how often AI answers name each product, model by model, from 50 recorded answers. It shows where ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity agree and where they split. Use the guides for plan detail and this page for how the products surface in AI answers.
How the sample was built
10 models x 5 fixed prompts = 50 recorded answers. Every model ran with web search on. The answers were recorded in early September 2026. The five questions, verbatim:
- What is the best platform to sell an online course for a creator? Name specific products.
- Which platform to sell an online course would you recommend to a creator in 2026?
- Compare the top platform to sell an online course options right now.
- I’m a creator and I need a platform to sell an online course. What should I use and why?
- Best platform to sell an online course for selling a cohort-based course?
The OpenAI family is GPT-5.6 Sol, ChatGPT (GPT-5.6 Terra) and GPT-5.6 Luna, for 15 answers. Anthropic is Claude Opus 5, Claude (Claude Sonnet 5) and Claude Fable 5, for 15 answers. Google is Gemini (Gemini 3.6 Flash) and Gemini 3.5 Flash, for 10 answers. Perplexity is Perplexity (Sonar Pro) and Sonar Reasoning Pro, for 10 answers. The panel tracks 15 course platforms and all 15 were named at least once. The method page sets out how answers are recorded and counted.
What these counts cannot tell you
The counts measure presence in answers. They say nothing about course quality, ease of use, support, uptime, pricing fairness or fit with your stack. Being named is not being recommended, because an answer can list a product only to warn against it.
Each model answered each prompt once, so a single answer moves a model’s count by a full step. The sample is one dated snapshot from one edition. Products are matched by name in the answer text. Answers came through each provider’s API, which can differ from the consumer chat apps. The prompts are in English, and one of the five asks about cohort courses, which shapes which products appear. Citation counts reflect only the citations returned in the recorded responses, and coverage varies by model. Pricing and audience lines come from the captured pages as they stood when captured, and several of those pages are written by vendors or carry affiliate links. No vendor can pay to appear, move or be removed.
Frequently asked questions
What are the disadvantages of Thinkific?
The captured pages name several. Every Thinkific plan caps the number of students. It has no built-in blog. Sending one email to your full list needs the Grow plan or above. FreshLearn reports a penalty fee on each sale if you skip Thinkific Payments. On the panel’s side, Thinkific is named in 48 of 50 answers but opens only 14 of them.
Can I make money on Teachable?
Yes, it is built for selling. Teachable lets you sell online courses, digital downloads, memberships and coaching. It includes affiliate tools so others can promote your courses. Its entry plan takes a transaction fee on each sale. The panel does not measure creator earnings on any platform.
Which is better, Teachable or Kajabi?
The panel does not measure better. It counts names: Kajabi appears in all 50 answers and first in 15, Teachable in 40 and first in 10. Every model names Kajabi in every answer. FreshLearn describes Kajabi as the all-in-one option at a premium price.
Which is better, Podia or Thinkific?
The panel counts names, not quality. Podia is named in 26 of 50 answers and first in 1. Thinkific is named in 48 and first in 14. Kindlepreneur’s review says Podia offers more than course building and that its premium versions cost less than Thinkific’s. The Podia comparison captured for this page is written by Podia itself.
Which one does ChatGPT name more often?
Thinkific, narrowly. ChatGPT (GPT-5.6 Terra) names Thinkific in 5 of 5 answers and Teachable in 4 of 5. GPT-5.6 Luna shows the same split. GPT-5.6 Sol names each in 4 of 5. Across the OpenAI family that gives Thinkific 93.3% and Teachable 80%.
