Squarespace vs Framer (2026): What ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini Say
Squarespace is named in 35 of 50 AI answers and Framer in 28. Framer is named first in 8, Squarespace in 2. The model-by-model split, the guides and the limits.
Squarespace is named in more AI answers. It appears in 35 of 50 recorded answers (Squarespace 70%) and Framer appears in 28 of 50 (Framer 56%). Framer is named first more often: 8 of 50 answers lead with Framer, against 2 of 50 for Squarespace. The two sit next to each other, third and fourth of the 16 products the models named. The counts come from the September 2026 panel of 10 AI models, and they measure which products the answers name.
TL;DR
- Squarespace reaches more answers: 35 of 50, against 28 of 50 for Framer.
- Framer reaches the top of more answers. It is named first in 8 of 50, and Squarespace in 2 of 50.
- Five of the ten models name Squarespace more often. Two lean to Framer, and three name both equally.
- Ask for a startup landing page and three OpenAI models open with Framer. Ask for a small-business site and Squarespace turns up as the polished all-in-one option.
- Match the product to the job. The captured guides place Squarespace with small businesses that want built-in tools and Framer with designers who want layout control.
How often do AI models recommend Squarespace and Framer?
Squarespace appears in more answers, and Framer appears first in more answers. The table shows both, with Wix, the category leader, as a reference row.
| Product | Named | Answer share | Named first | First share | Average position | Category rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Squarespace | 35/50 | Squarespace 70% | 2/50 | Squarespace 4% | 2.86 | 3 of 16 |
| Framer | 28/50 | Framer 56% | 8/50 | Framer 16% | 3.71 | 4 of 16 |
| Wix (category leader, reference) | 48/50 | Wix 96% | 37/50 | Wix 74% | 1.58 | 1 of 16 |
Answer share is the share of the 50 recorded answers that named the product. Named first counts the answers where the product appeared before any other tracked product. Average position is the product’s mean place in the answers that named it, so a lower number means earlier.
The two gaps point in opposite directions. Squarespace’s named-versus-first gap is 66 points, the second widest of the 16 products after Hostinger’s 74. The models list Squarespace often and seldom lead with it. Framer’s gap is 40 points. Its 8 first placements are the second most in the category, behind Wix’s 37.
Average position runs the other way. Squarespace averages 2.86 and Framer averages 3.71. Read together, the counts suggest two patterns. Framer tends to lead an answer or turn up late in a longer list. Squarespace tends to sit near the top without leading. Both patterns are inferences from the counts, and the quoted answers further down show where they come from.
Which models prefer Squarespace, and which prefer Framer?
Five of the ten models name Squarespace more often than Framer. Two name Framer more often, and three name both equally. Every one of the ten models names each product at least once.
| Model | Family | Squarespace | Framer | Leans to |

| Perplexity | Perplexity | 4/5 | 2/5 | Squarespace |
| Sonar Reasoning Pro | Perplexity | 4/5 | 1/5 | Squarespace |
Sonar Reasoning Pro holds the sharpest split. It names Squarespace in 4 of 5 answers and Framer in 1 of 5 (Framer 20%), Framer’s lowest count at any model. Perplexity, the other model in that family, names Squarespace in 4 and Framer in 2. Most of Squarespace’s overall lead comes from these two models. Across the family’s 10 answers the rate is Squarespace 80%.
Claude is the only model that names Squarespace in all five answers (Squarespace 100%). It names Framer in four.
The Anthropic family is where Framer draws level. Across its 15 answers the family names each product at the same rate: Squarespace 80% and Framer 80%. Claude Fable 5 leans to Framer by 4 to 3. Claude Opus 5 names each in 4 of 5.
The OpenAI models split among themselves. GPT-5.6 Sol leans to Squarespace by 4 to 2, and ChatGPT by 3 to 2. GPT-5.6 Luna leans to Framer by 4 to 3. Across the family’s 15 answers the rates are Squarespace 66.7% and Framer 53.3%.
The two Google models give identical counts for both products: 3 each at Gemini and 2 each at Gemini 3.5 Flash. Across the Google family’s 10 answers the rate is Squarespace 50%, its weakest family. Gemini 3.5 Flash gives Squarespace its lowest count at any model.
Neither product leads any model. Wix leads eight of the ten, and Hostinger leads Claude and Gemini 3.5 Flash.
What do the answers say about each?
The models name the two products for different jobs. Framer comes up as the pick for a startup landing page. Squarespace comes up as the polished all-in-one choice when the question is about a small business.
- ChatGPT, asked “Best AI website builder for a startup landing page?”, opens with: “Best overall for a startup landing page: Framer.”
- Perplexity, comparing the top options, puts it in one line: “Framer is best for design control”.
- Claude Fable 5, recommending a builder for a small business, lists Squarespace as “Ideal if you want a polished, all-in-one solution.”
- Sonar Reasoning Pro, answering the same small-business question: “If visual design polish matters more than flexibility, my main alternative would be Squarespace AI.”
GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.6 Luna also open their landing-page answers by naming Framer as best overall. The landing-page question is one of the five fixed prompts. It is a likely source of Framer’s lead in first placements, though the published counts do not split first placements by question.
How do Squarespace and Framer differ?
Squarespace packages commerce, invoicing and scheduling into its own system, and Framer handles commerce through integrations and custom work. The captured guides describe the same split.
Pricing model
The panel records no prices for either product. Framer’s own comparison page says a limited Framer site can be published for free. The same page says Squarespace starts with a trial before a paid plan is chosen. Framer describes its Pro plan as adding branching, staging and more CMS capacity. It describes higher Squarespace plans as expanding commerce and business capabilities.
ecomm.design reports that Framer’s ecommerce features are only available on the Pro plan. It lists a transaction fee on Squarespace’s Business plan that the Commerce plans remove. On both products the plan price can understate the bill. Framer’s page says integrations may add cost for commerce or scheduling on Framer. It says commerce, payments and scheduling can carry separate fees on Squarespace.
Who each is for
Squarespace is placed with beginners and small businesses. Big Cat Creative calls it a great fit for DIYers and small business owners. ecomm.design names it best overall for ecommerce stores, especially for beginners and small businesses. Wize Templates says Squarespace is aimed at people who may not have any serious previous experience. Framer’s own page lists portfolios, stores and service sites as Squarespace’s best fit.
Framer is placed with designers. Big Cat Creative calls it best for designers, creatives and anyone who wants a custom website without relying heavily on code. ecomm.design names designers who want custom control and fast landing pages. Wize Templates says Framer suits people with experience in the design field. Framer’s page lists custom brand and campaign sites as its own best fit.
Built-in tools, tablet editing and store features
For Squarespace, Big Cat Creative lists built-in tools for blogging, ecommerce, scheduling, courses, memberships, donations, invoicing and email marketing.
For Framer, Big Cat Creative notes a separate tablet view alongside desktop and mobile. The same guide lists the missing tablet view as a Squarespace limitation.
The guides disagree on Framer’s store features. ecomm.design says Framer lacks cart functionality for multiple products. Big Cat Creative goes further and says Framer has no built-in ecommerce system. A buyer who plans to sell should check Framer’s current commerce features directly.
What the models name each for
The recorded answers tie Framer to startup landing pages and design control. They tie Squarespace to design polish in an all-in-one package for small businesses.
When should you pick Squarespace?
Pick Squarespace if you want the product more of the models name, or if the site needs business tools inside the plan.
- Squarespace is named in 35 of 50 answers. Nine of the ten models name it in at least 3 of their 5.
- Both Perplexity models name it in 4 of 5 answers, against 2 and 1 for Framer.
- Claude names it in every one of its answers.
- Big Cat Creative lists blogging, ecommerce, scheduling, memberships and invoicing among its built-in tools.
- Even Framer’s own comparison page calls it attractive for portfolios, service businesses, stores and appointment-led sites.
The measured weakness is the lead position. Squarespace is named first in 2 of 50 answers, so the models tend to list it and then lead with something else.
When should you pick Framer?
Pick Framer if the site is a landing page or a design-led brand site and the team wants control over layout.
- Framer is named first in 8 of 50 answers, more than any product except Wix.
- ChatGPT, GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.6 Luna each open their landing-page answer with it.
- Across the Anthropic models it matches Squarespace at Framer 80%.
- Framer’s comparison page says its Pro plan adds branching and staging.
- Big Cat Creative credits it with more control across desktop, tablet and mobile.
The measured weakness is reach. Framer is named in 28 of 50 answers, and Sonar Reasoning Pro names it once in five.
How this sits against the Squarespace vs Framer guides
The guides that rank for “Squarespace vs Framer” compare features, and three of the four read in full carry a commercial tie to one of the two products. The four were read in full from a Google Australia results capture taken in September 2026.
ecomm.design is written by its founder, Bogdan Rancea. It names Squarespace best overall for ecommerce stores and Framer best for designers who want custom control. The page carries a Shopify free-trial promotion.
Big Cat Creative’s guide is by Erica Hartwick. The blog files it under Squarespace Tips. Its Squarespace links route through a third-party domain, squarespace.syuh.net. The post closes by pointing readers to the studio’s own Squarespace template kits. It credits Framer with creative freedom and Squarespace with ease of use and all-in-one business features.
Framer’s comparison page is written by the vendor. It positions Framer for custom brand and campaign sites and Squarespace for portfolios, stores and service sites.
Wize Templates’ guide is by Teodor Iliev, founder of Wize Design and Wize Templates. The site sells Framer templates. The guide was last updated on Apr 20, 2024. It says Squarespace holds the advantage for selling physical products online.
A Reddit thread from the same results could not be retrieved. Squarespace’s own comparison page appeared further down the results and was not read in full.
None of the guides reports what AI models say. Memetik counts which of the two the models name, across 10 models and the same five questions, and publishes every recorded answer in the AI website builders category record.
How the sample was built
The sample is 10 models x 5 fixed prompts = 50 recorded answers, run on 2 September 2026 for the September 2026 edition. Each model answered each question once. The five questions, verbatim:
- What is the best AI website builder for a small business? Name specific products.
- Which AI website builder would you recommend to a small business in 2026?
- Compare the top AI website builder options right now.
- I’m a small business and I need an AI website builder. What should I use and why?
- Best AI website builder for a startup landing page?
The ten models come from four families. OpenAI supplies GPT-5.6 Sol, ChatGPT and GPT-5.6 Luna, for 15 answers. Anthropic supplies Claude Opus 5, Claude and Claude Fable 5, for 15 answers. Google supplies Gemini and Gemini 3.5 Flash, for 10 answers. Perplexity supplies Perplexity and Sonar Reasoning Pro, for 10 answers. The panel tracked 17 website builders, and 16 were named at least once. The method sets out how names are matched and counted.
What these counts cannot tell you
The counts measure presence in answers. They say nothing about which product builds a better site, loads faster or supports its customers better. Being named also differs from being recommended, because an answer can name a product to warn against it.
Each model answered each question once. A per-model count out of 5 therefore moves a full step on a single answer, and the three even models could tip either way on another run. The run is one snapshot, taken on 2 September 2026. Names are matched as text, so a mention of a product line such as Squarespace Blueprint AI counts toward Squarespace. The answers came through each model’s API, and consumer chat apps can answer differently. All five prompts were in English and framed around small businesses and startup landing pages. A buyer asking about a portfolio or an online store may hear different names.
Frequently asked questions
Is Squarespace still good in 2026?
The panel does not grade quality, so it cannot say whether Squarespace is good. It can say the models still name it often. In the September 2026 edition Squarespace appears in 35 of 50 answers and ranks third of 16 named products. Big Cat Creative’s guide carries a 5 May 2026 date in the captured search results. It still places Squarespace with DIYers and small business owners.
What are the downsides of using Squarespace?
The captured guides name design limits and cost. Big Cat Creative lists less creative freedom and a more restrictive feel for custom designs. It also notes there is no separate tablet editing view. Wize Templates, which sells Framer templates, says Squarespace plans can be slightly more expensive than other website builders. On the panel’s own counts, Squarespace is named first in only 2 of 50 answers.
Is there anything better than Squarespace?
The panel does not rank products on quality. Two products are named more often than Squarespace: Wix in 48 of 50 answers and Hostinger in 38 of 50. Framer is named less often than Squarespace but first more often, in 8 answers against 2. The full ranking by answer count is in the category record.
What’s better than Framer?
The panel measures names and leaves “better” to the buyer. Three products are named more often than Framer: Wix, Hostinger and Squarespace. Only Wix is named first more often than Framer, with 37 first placements against 8.
Which one does ChatGPT name more often?
ChatGPT names Squarespace in 3 of 5 answers and Framer in 2 of 5. It still opens its landing-page answer with Framer, so a buyer asking ChatGPT about a startup landing page hears Framer first.
Can Squarespace and Framer be used together?
Framer’s own comparison page describes that setup. It says some organisations keep commerce or scheduling in Squarespace and publish a separate Framer marketing site. The panel did not ask about combined setups, so it holds no count for this.
