HubSpot vs Salesforce (2026): What ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini Say
HubSpot is named in 50 of 50 AI answers on startup CRM and Salesforce in 31. See how ten models lean on each, and when each product fits.
AI models name HubSpot far more often than Salesforce. HubSpot appears in 50 of 50 recorded answers. Salesforce appears in 31 of 50. HubSpot is named first in 32 of 50 answers, and Salesforce is named first in 1. The gap is wide, and no model in the panel names Salesforce more often than HubSpot. The five questions ask about CRM for startups, so these counts describe that buyer.
TL;DR
- Expect HubSpot to be the first CRM an AI model suggests for a startup. All ten models name it in all five of their answers.
- Salesforce stays on most lists but sits lower. Its average position is 5, against 1.5 for HubSpot.
- Claude Opus 5 and Claude lean furthest toward Salesforce. Perplexity, Claude Fable 5 and Gemini 3.5 Flash lean least.
- Choose on sales process and budget. The captured guides tie HubSpot to smaller and scaling teams and Salesforce to complex or enterprise sales.
- Check prices with each vendor. Forbes Advisor and Avoma disagree on entry prices and on whether Salesforce has a free plan.
How often do AI models recommend HubSpot and Salesforce?
HubSpot is named in every recorded answer and leads 32 of them. Salesforce is named in 31 of 50 and leads 1. HubSpot also leads the whole category of 13 named products.
| Product | Named | Answer share | Named first | First share | Average position | Category rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HubSpot | 50/50 | 100% | 32/50 | 64% | 1.5 | 1st of 13 |
| Salesforce | 31/50 | 62% | 1/50 | 2% | 5 | 4th of 13 |
Answer share is the share of the 50 answers that name the product. Named first counts the answers where it appears before any other tracked product.
The two products sit further apart on named first than on named. Salesforce reaches most answers. It almost never opens one. Its named-versus-first gap is 60 points. The gap for HubSpot is 36 points. A buyer who asks an AI model about startup CRM hears HubSpot at the top of the list and Salesforce further down.
The recorded answers also cite the two vendors’ own sites at different rates. Across all 50 answers, hubspot.com is cited 25 times and salesforce.com 11 times. Citation coverage varies by model, so read those two counts as a rough signal.
Which models prefer HubSpot, and which prefer Salesforce?
Every model names HubSpot in 5 of 5 answers, and no model names Salesforce more often. The models disagree only on how often Salesforce joins the list. Its count runs from 5 of 5 down to 2 of 5.
| Model | Family | HubSpot | Salesforce |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPT-5.6 Sol | OpenAI | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| ChatGPT | OpenAI | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| GPT-5.6 Luna | OpenAI | 5/5 | 3/5 |
| Claude Opus 5 | Anthropic | 5/5 | 5/5 |
| Claude | Anthropic | 5/5 | 5/5 |
| Claude Fable 5 | Anthropic | 5/5 | 2/5 |
| Gemini | 5/5 | 3/5 | |
| Gemini 3.5 Flash | 5/5 | 2/5 | |
| Perplexity | Perplexity | 5/5 | 2/5 |
| Sonar Reasoning Pro | Perplexity | 5/5 | 3/5 |
The sharpest split sits inside one family. Claude Opus 5 and Claude name Salesforce in every answer. Claude Fable 5 names it in 2 of 5. Even with Claude Fable 5 pulling it down, Anthropic gives Salesforce its highest family count: Salesforce (80% of Anthropic answers).
The OpenAI models agree with each other. GPT-5.6 Sol, ChatGPT and GPT-5.6 Luna each name Salesforce in 3 of 5 answers, for Salesforce (60% of OpenAI answers). The Google pair splits by one answer, with Gemini at 3 of 5 and Gemini 3.5 Flash at 2 of 5. Perplexity names Salesforce in 2 of 5 and Sonar Reasoning Pro in 3 of 5, for Salesforce (50% of Perplexity answers).
HubSpot shows no split to read. It is the leader for every model and every family. Any lean in this panel is a lean on Salesforce alone.
What do the answers say about each?
The answers frame HubSpot as the default place to start and Salesforce as a later or conditional choice. Five short quotes from the recorded answers show the range.
Perplexity, answering “What is the best CRM for an early-stage startup?”:
“For most early-stage startups, the best default CRM is HubSpot CRM.”
Gemini, answering the question about scaling to 50 reps:
“The primary trap to avoid is HubSpot.”
GPT-5.6 Sol, in its comparison of startup CRMs:
“Best for eventual enterprise complexity: Salesforce”
Claude Opus 5, answering the question about a 5-person team:
“Salesforce only if you have a specific reason (investor mandate, complex compensation structures, or you’re hiring an ops person soon).”
Gemini 3.5 Flash, on the same question:
“Avoid Salesforce (which requires a full-time administrator to be useful) and standard HubSpot (which quickly becomes incredibly expensive and complex to scale for a tiny sales team).”
The HubSpot quotes pull in two directions. Perplexity makes it the default for an early-stage team. Gemini names it in the 50-rep answer as a trap. The Salesforce quotes agree with each other. GPT-5.6 Sol ties it to later complexity. Claude Opus 5 asks for a specific reason. Gemini 3.5 Flash ties it to a full-time administrator.
How do HubSpot and Salesforce differ?
The captured guides separate the two products on company size, setup effort and how the bill is built. The panel’s own records hold no pricing for either product.
Who each is for. Avoma lists HubSpot as best for “SMBs and scaling startups” and Salesforce as best for “Mid-market and enterprise”. Forbes Advisor writes that Salesforce is for medium-sized businesses that need a CRM to integrate with even the most obscure tech stacks. The same page calls HubSpot the best bet for a buyer who needs a marketing CRM. RevOps Co-op’s author finds HubSpot suitable for most organisations with straightforward workflows. The same author points buyers with complex account hierarchies, channel sales or a highly regulated industry to Salesforce.
Pricing model. HubSpot sells a free CRM tier and paid per-seat Sales Hub tiers. Avoma records monthly billing for HubSpot at a premium over annual pricing. Avoma also records one-time onboarding fees on the HubSpot Professional and Enterprise tiers. Forbes Advisor lists Salesforce suites priced per user. It notes that Salesforce skips a mid-tier plan. Avoma records that each Salesforce Cloud is charged separately. Forbes Advisor warns that add-ons raise the cost on both platforms.
Where the guides disagree. Forbes Advisor and Avoma record different entry prices for the HubSpot Starter plan. Confirm the current price on each vendor’s pricing page before you budget.
One claim from each side. HubSpot’s own comparison page describes its sales tools as built on a unified customer record with no data connectors needed. Forbes Advisor says HubSpot’s integration collection “pales in comparison” to what Salesforce offers.
What the models name each for. In the recorded answers, HubSpot is the startup default. Salesforce is the option for enterprise complexity or a specific need.
When should you pick HubSpot?
Pick HubSpot when a small or scaling team wants the CRM the models name first and the guides place with smaller companies.
- Every one of the ten models names HubSpot in all five answers, and it opens 32 of 50.
- Marketing and sales share one team: Forbes Advisor names HubSpot the best bet for a marketing CRM.
- Workflows are straightforward, the case RevOps Co-op’s author ties to HubSpot.
- A free tier matters at the start. Avoma records a free HubSpot CRM.
- Budget for growth before you commit. Avoma records minimum seat numbers on HubSpot’s paid tiers.
When should you pick Salesforce?
Pick Salesforce when the sales organisation is complex or already large, and budget allows for setup help.
- Complex account hierarchies, channel sales or a regulated industry are the cases RevOps Co-op’s author sends to Salesforce.
- Integration reach matters most. Forbes Advisor ties Salesforce to obscure tech stacks.
- Avoma judges Salesforce at its best when it serves enterprise customers.
- Plan for a consultant. Avoma says most non-trivial Salesforce implementations benefit from a certified one.
- Even on startup questions, 31 of 50 answers keep Salesforce on the list. Claude Opus 5 and Claude name it every time.
How this sits against the HubSpot vs Salesforce guides
Four ranking guides were captured for this query in Australian results. Each compares the two products on features and fit. None counts what AI answers name.
RevOps Co-op. A CRM administrator writes this guide from hands-on experience with both systems. Its central argument is that a person who knows one CRM can manage another. It carries no product scores.
HubSpot. HubSpot wrote this comparison page to sell its own product. It names the rival product Agentforce Sales, formerly Sales Cloud. Its headline percentages come from HubSpot’s own survey of customers who switched from Salesforce.
Forbes Advisor. The page carries an advertiser disclosure. It states that Forbes Advisor earns a commission from the offers on the page. It scores the products round by round, with Salesforce ahead on reports and integrations and HubSpot ahead on marketing tools.
Avoma. Avoma sells a conversation intelligence product that syncs into Salesforce. Its method combines vendor demos, free trials, user interviews and aggregated review-site ratings. It concludes that Salesforce is best suited to bigger companies, primarily enterprises.
Salesforce’s own comparison page and a Reddit thread also ranked for the query. Neither body was captured, so neither is described here.
This page adds what those guides leave out. It records how ten AI models answer five fixed startup CRM questions. It splits the counts model by model and quotes the answers. The full category record, with every answer, sits at the startup CRM index.
How the sample was built
The panel is 10 models x 5 fixed prompts = 50 recorded answers, with one answer per model-and-question pair. The edition is 2026-09. The five questions, verbatim:
- What is the best CRM for an early-stage startup? Name specific products.
- Which CRM should a 5-person B2B SaaS sales team use?
- Compare the top CRMs for startups in 2026.
- I’m a founder doing my own sales. Which CRM do you recommend?
- Best affordable CRM for a startup that will scale to 50 reps?
The models come from four families. OpenAI supplies GPT-5.6 Sol, ChatGPT (GPT-5.6 Terra) and GPT-5.6 Luna, for 15 answers. Anthropic supplies Claude Opus 5, Claude (Claude Sonnet 5) and Claude Fable 5, for 15 answers. Google supplies Gemini (Gemini 3.6 Flash) and Gemini 3.5 Flash, for 10 answers. Perplexity supplies Perplexity (Sonar Pro) and Sonar Reasoning Pro, for 10 answers. The category tracks 14 vendors, and the models named 13 of them. The method page explains how answers are recorded and counted.
What these counts cannot tell you
The counts measure presence in AI answers. They say nothing about product quality, support, uptime, pricing fairness or fit with a given stack. Being named also differs from being recommended. Gemini’s answer to the 50-rep question names HubSpot as a trap to avoid, and that answer still counts as a mention.
The five questions ask about startups and small teams. No enterprise-framed question was run, so Salesforce’s count here does not describe how the models answer an enterprise buyer. Each model answered each question once, in English. The answers came through each model’s API in one dated edition. Consumer chat apps can answer differently. Product names are matched as text. Citation counts reflect only the citations each API returned.
Frequently asked questions
Is HubSpot replacing Salesforce?
The panel cannot measure replacement. It counts names in answers at one point in time. HubSpot’s comparison page publishes a HubSpot survey of customers who switched from Salesforce. RevOps Co-op’s author does not believe HubSpot is the next Salesforce.
Who is Salesforce’s biggest competitor?
The panel does not rank competitors. In startup CRM answers, HubSpot and Pipedrive each appear in all 50 answers. Every answer that names Salesforce therefore names both of them too. Outside the panel, Avoma reports that the G2 grid puts HubSpot and Salesforce far ahead of third-placed ActiveCampaign.
Is there a better CRM than HubSpot?
The panel measures names and cannot rank quality. No product in the startup CRM category is named more often than HubSpot. Pipedrive matches it at 50 of 50 answers. Pipedrive is named first in 8 of 50, against 32 for HubSpot.
Is HubSpot still relevant?
By count, yes. In this edition’s startup CRM answers, no product is named more often or placed first more often. Avoma’s guide calls HubSpot a solid CRM that is less distinctive than it once was.
Does Salesforce have a free plan?
The captured guides disagree. Forbes Advisor lists a Salesforce free plan with basic tools. Avoma lists no Salesforce free plan and describes a free trial in its place. Check Salesforce’s own pricing page for the current offer.
Can HubSpot and Salesforce run side by side?
HubSpot says they can. Its comparison page states that HubSpot’s Professional and Enterprise editions offer bi-directional syncing with Salesforce. The panel holds no record of how well that sync works.
