Best Salesforce Alternatives (2026): What ChatGPT, Claude & Gemini Recommend

Salesforce is named in 31 of 50 AI answers on startup CRM and first in 1. HubSpot and Pipedrive appear in all 50. The alternatives, ranked by AI mentions.

Salesforce is named in 31 of 50 recorded AI answers on startup CRM (Salesforce 62%) and placed first in 1 (Salesforce 2%). Its rank is fourth of 13 named vendors, behind HubSpot, Pipedrive and Attio. HubSpot and Pipedrive are the alternatives the models name most. Each appears in all 50 answers, and HubSpot comes first in 32. Close follows in 29 answers, Zoho CRM in 27, Notion in 15 and Folk in 13. The counts measure which names AI answers produce. They do not rate the products.

TL;DR

Where does Salesforce sit in AI answers?

Salesforce sits fourth in the startup CRM category on named count and late in the running order of the answers that name it.

Measured: named 31 of 50 (Salesforce 62%), first 1 of 50 (Salesforce 2%), average position 5.

Answer share is the share of the 50 answers that name a product. Named first means the product appeared before any other tracked product in that answer. The method sets out how position is counted.

All ten models name Salesforce at least once. Claude Opus 5 and Claude name it in all five of their answers. Its average position of 5 is later than every alternative below except Folk.

The answers name Salesforce for scale and complexity. GPT-5.6 Sol’s comparison gives it one line: “Best for eventual enterprise complexity: Salesforce”. Claude Opus 5 tells a small SaaS team to choose “Salesforce only if you have a specific reason (investor mandate, complex compensation structures, or you’re hiring an ops person soon).” Claude’s answer on scaling to 50 reps says Salesforce makes sense for venture-backed teams with complex sales processes. Sonar Reasoning Pro lists Salesforce Starter among its early-stage options.

Some of the 31 names are cautions. Gemini 3.5 Flash tells a small sales team to avoid Salesforce. Claude Opus 5 names it as the one tool a solo founder should skip. Those conditions and cautions fit the gap between 31 names and 1 first place. In startup answers, the models mostly mention Salesforce as the system a team may grow into later.

The recorded answers cite salesforce.com 11 times. close.com and folk.app match that count.

1. HubSpot

Pick HubSpot instead of Salesforce if you want the CRM the models reach for first, with marketing and sales on one system from the first seat.

Measured: named 50 of 50 (HubSpot 100%), first 32 of 50 (HubSpot 64%), average position 1.5.

HubSpot is the default the other answers are written against. It appears in every answer from all ten models and opens 32 of them. No other CRM in the category comes near that first-place count. The answers give two reasons for it. A free tier lets a team run a real pipeline before paying. Marketing, sales and service then share one record as the company grows. Claude Opus 5 calls HubSpot Sales Hub the default fit for a small SaaS team. The friction the answers raise is price after the free tier. Several warn that paid plans step up sharply once a team needs automation and custom reporting. For a buyer leaving Salesforce, HubSpot is the name most answers open with.

Pros

Cons

Pricing: no pricing is recorded in the vendor record for this edition.

Best for: teams that want marketing and sales on one record and a free tier to start on.

2. Pipedrive

Pick Pipedrive instead of Salesforce if you run a small sales team whose work lives in a visible deal pipeline.

Measured: named 50 of 50 (Pipedrive 100%), first 8 of 50 (Pipedrive 16%), average position 2.72.

Pipedrive matches HubSpot on presence and trails it on placement. The answers attach it to one job: a clear deal pipeline that reps keep updated. Claude puts the case in one line: “Pipedrive figured out that if sales reps don’t use it, nothing else matters”. Three models open their small-team answer with Pipedrive as the default. Claude Opus 5 calls it the lower-regret choice for a team growing towards 50 reps. The trade-off the answers name is depth. Marketing automation and reporting run lighter than in heavier tools. For a team leaving Salesforce to simplify, Pipedrive is the most consistent answer after HubSpot.

Pros

Cons

Pricing: the record for this edition holds no Pipedrive pricing.

Best for: small teams that sell through a visible deal pipeline.

3. Close

Pick Close instead of Salesforce if your team sells through outbound calls and email sequences, the motion the answers tie it to.

Measured: named 29 of 50 (Close 58%), first 1 of 50 (Close 2%), average position 4.62.

Close is named in 29 answers against Salesforce’s 31, with a far narrower identity. The models reach for it when the question involves cold calling, dialers and sequences. Gemini 3.5 Flash describes it directly: “Close is a CRM built specifically for inside sales and outbound calling/emailing.” ChatGPT’s small-team table assigns it to reps who live in a dialer. GPT-5.6 Sol tags it the pick for outbound-heavy selling. Close almost never opens an answer. It enters once the question narrows to an outbound team, which makes it a specialist switch.

Pros

Cons

Pricing: no pricing is held in this edition’s record for Close.

Best for: outbound-heavy teams that call and email from inside the CRM.

4. Zoho CRM

Pick Zoho CRM instead of Salesforce if price per seat is the binding constraint and you still expect the team to grow.

Measured: named 27 of 50 (Zoho CRM 54%), first 4 of 50 (Zoho CRM 8%), average position 3.59.

Zoho CRM is named less often than Salesforce and placed earlier. Its 4 first places compare with Salesforce’s 1. The answers frame it as the value pick for a team that plans to scale. GPT-5.6 Sol’s comparison labels it best value. Its answer on growing to 50 reps opens with Zoho CRM Professional. Claude calls Zoho the budget-first alternative. The endorsement sits mainly with Anthropic’s models (Zoho CRM 73.3% of Anthropic answers). Claude Opus 5 is the exception inside that family. It accepts the price case and still argues against Zoho for a 50-seat team.

Pros

Cons

Pricing: Zoho CRM has no pricing in the record for this edition.

Best for: cost-led teams that expect to add many reps.

5. Notion

Pick Notion instead of Salesforce only if you are still pre-CRM. Claude Opus 5 suggests it for founders with few active deals and no sales team.

Measured: named 15 of 50 (Notion 30%), first 1 of 50 (Notion 2%), average position 4.07.

The count for Notion needs care. The panel matches product names as strings, and several answers use Notion’s name to describe another product. Gemini calls Attio a highly customisable tool like Notion for CRM. Gemini 3.5 Flash compares Attio to Notion more than once. Claude Opus 5 describes Attio as Notion-meets-CRM. Its founder answer does name Notion as a real option, as a tracker to use before buying a CRM. The mentions cluster in the Google models. For a Salesforce buyer, Notion is a lighter tool for an earlier stage.

Pros

Cons

Pricing: the record holds no Notion pricing for this edition.

Best for: founders tracking a small number of deals before adopting a CRM.

6. Folk

Pick Folk instead of Salesforce if you sell through your network, warm introductions and LinkedIn, and want a light tool.

Measured: named 13 of 50 (Folk 26%), first 0 of 50 (Folk 0%), average position 5.08.

Folk is the lightest option in this set and the models place it that way. It never opens an answer and lands later in the running order than any alternative above. The job it is named for stays consistent: relationship-driven selling. Gemini’s founder answer sums up the case: “If your leads come mainly from LinkedIn & personal network: Go with Folk.” Claude Opus 5 describes it as very lightweight and suited to fundraising, partnerships and agency work. Gemini 3.5 Flash credits its LinkedIn import and mail merge. Against Salesforce, Folk sits at the opposite end of the scale.

Pros

Cons

Pricing: no pricing is recorded for Folk in this edition.

Best for: founders and small teams selling through warm introductions.

How the alternatives compare

HubSpot and Pipedrive lead the category on presence, and HubSpot alone leads on first placement.

Vendor Named Answer share Named first First share Average position Pricing
HubSpot 50/50 100% 32/50 64% 1.5 Not recorded
Pipedrive 50/50 100% 8/50 16% 2.72 Not recorded
Attio (reference) 34/50 68% 2/50 4% 2.88 Not recorded
Salesforce (reference) 31/50 62% 1/50 2% 5 Not recorded
Close 29/50 58% 1/50 2% 4.62 Not recorded
Zoho CRM 27/50 54% 4/50 8% 3.59 Not recorded
Notion 15/50 30% 1/50 2% 4.07 Not recorded
Folk 13/50 26% 0/50 0% 5.08 Not recorded

Salesforce sits mid-table on presence and near the bottom on placement. Attio ranks between Pipedrive and Salesforce with 34 names. It appears as a reference row and has no entry above. Below Salesforce the order runs Close, Zoho CRM, Notion and Folk. Zoho CRM’s 4 first places are the most of any product outside the top two. The full category record, with every answer and its cited sources, is at /index/startup-crm.

Where the models disagree

The ten models agree on the top two and split on almost everything below them. Every model names HubSpot and Pipedrive in all five of its answers, and every model’s leader is HubSpot.

Salesforce splits by model family. Anthropic’s models name it most, Salesforce (80% of Anthropic answers). Claude Opus 5 and Claude name it in all five answers, while Claude Fable 5 names it in two. OpenAI’s three models name it in three answers each, Salesforce (60% of OpenAI answers). The Perplexity pair sits lowest, Salesforce (50% of Perplexity answers). The Anthropic answers that name Salesforce most are also the ones that spell out when a startup should hold off.

Close shows a different split. ChatGPT and Perplexity name it in four of five answers each, Close (70% of Perplexity answers). Claude Opus 5 names it once.

Zoho CRM leans on Anthropic, Zoho CRM (73.3% of Anthropic answers). ChatGPT and Gemini 3.5 Flash give it one answer each.

Notion is a Google-model name, Notion (90% of Google answers). The three OpenAI models, Claude Fable 5 and Perplexity never name it.

Folk draws its strongest support from Gemini 3.5 Flash and Sonar Reasoning Pro, at three answers each.

The models also disagree in substance on the small-team question. Claude Opus 5 calls HubSpot Sales Hub the default fit for a small SaaS team. Gemini 3.5 Flash tells the same team to avoid standard HubSpot on cost and complexity.

How the sample was built

The sample is 10 models x 5 fixed prompts = 50 recorded answers, one answer per model and prompt, from edition 2026-09. Each model received the same five questions:

  1. What is the best CRM for an early-stage startup? Name specific products.
  2. Which CRM should a 5-person B2B SaaS sales team use?
  3. Compare the top CRMs for startups in 2026.
  4. I’m a founder doing my own sales. Which CRM do you recommend?
  5. Best affordable CRM for a startup that will scale to 50 reps?

The ten models come from four families. OpenAI supplies GPT-5.6 Sol, ChatGPT (GPT-5.6 Terra) and GPT-5.6 Luna, for 15 answers. Anthropic supplies Claude Opus 5, Claude (Claude Sonnet 5) and Claude Fable 5, for 15 answers. Google supplies Gemini (Gemini 3.6 Flash) and Gemini 3.5 Flash, for 10 answers. Perplexity supplies Perplexity (Sonar Pro) and Sonar Reasoning Pro, for 10 answers. The panel tracked 14 CRM vendors, and 13 of them were named. Insightly was the one vendor no model named.

How this sits against the Salesforce alternatives guides

Four of the pages in Google’s Australian results for this query are compared below. All four are published by software vendors.

Zenskar’s page is written by Zenskar and lists Zenskar first. It compares billing platforms against Salesforce Billing, naming Chargebee, Zuora, Maxio and Sage Intacct. It describes Salesforce Billing as suited to enterprise customers already in the Salesforce ecosystem.

The folk page sits on folk’s own site and opens with folk’s product pitch. Google’s snippet for it names Close CRM, Capsule CRM, folk, ActiveCampaign and Pipedrive. Folk appears in 13 of the 50 recorded answers.

Insightly’s page presents Insightly as the alternative to Salesforce. It calls Salesforce a long-recognised market leader. Insightly was tracked by the panel and named in none of the 50 answers.

Copper’s page is published by Copper and carries a free-trial offer. Google’s snippet for it lists Copper first, followed by HubSpot CRM, Microsoft Dynamics, SugarCRM, Pipedrive and Zoho CRM. Copper appears in 5 of the 50 recorded answers.

Each guide is written to steer a purchase, and each publisher places its own product in the frame. Every alternative above except Notion also appears in the folk or Copper snippets. The panel adds what those guides lack: counts of which names AI answers produce for startup buyers, split by model, with named-first placements.

What these counts cannot tell you

The counts record presence in AI answers. They say nothing about product quality, support, uptime, pricing fairness or fit with a particular stack. A name also differs from a recommendation. Gemini 3.5 Flash names Salesforce to advise a small team against it, and that answer still counts.

Each model gave one answer per prompt, so a rerun could move any count. The run is one dated snapshot, edition 2026-09. Names are matched as strings, which is why Notion collects mentions from answers describing Attio. The answers came through model APIs and can differ from what a consumer chat app shows. The prompts are in English. All five ask about startups, so Salesforce’s numbers describe the startup CRM question and leave enterprise buying outside the sample. No vendor pays to appear, to move or to be removed.

Frequently asked questions

Who is Salesforce’s biggest competitor?

In AI answers about startup CRM, HubSpot is the product named most alongside Salesforce. It appears in all 50 recorded answers and comes first in 32. The panel measures presence in AI answers. Market share and revenue are outside it, so it cannot say which company takes the most customers from Salesforce.

What are the top 3 CRM systems?

By named count in the startup CRM answers, the top three are HubSpot and Pipedrive, each in 50 of 50, then Attio in 34. Salesforce is fourth with 31. The ranking counts how often AI models name each CRM for startups. It does not grade CRM quality or cover the wider enterprise market.

Why is Salesforce falling?

The panel cannot show a fall, because a single edition has no trend line. What edition 2026-09 shows is a gap between presence and placement: Salesforce is named in 31 of 50 answers and first in 1. The answers that explain it tie Salesforce to complex, larger sales operations, which sit outside the startup questions the panel asks.

What is replacing Salesforce?

The panel does not measure migrations or contract losses. For the startup questions it asks, the models name HubSpot and Pipedrive in every answer. Some answers describe the opposite path. Claude Opus 5 calls a later move from HubSpot to Salesforce a well-worn path once a sales team grows.

Which Salesforce alternative do the models name for a founder selling alone?

HubSpot’s free tier and Pipedrive come up most, with the choice turning on sales motion. GPT-5.6 Sol and ChatGPT open their founder answers with HubSpot Free. Gemini’s founder answer puts Attio first and routes network-led sellers to Folk. Claude Opus 5 suggests a spreadsheet or Notion before any CRM for founders with few deals, and names Salesforce as the tool to skip.
