Podia is named in 46 of 50 AI answers. The alternatives the models name next, in measured order, with who should switch to each and why.
Podia is the product AI models name most when a creator asks where to sell: 46 of 50 answers (Podia 92%), first in 24 (Podia 48%), rank 1 of 16 in the category. The alternatives they name most are Gumroad (41 of 50), Payhip (36), Kajabi (31), Shopify (21), Patreon (15) and Skool (13). This page counts which products the models name. It does not test them.

Where does Podia sit in AI answers?
Podia leads the category on count and first placement. Named 46 of 50, first 24 of 50, average position 2.22. Rank 1 of 16 named vendors.
Every model named it in at least four of its five answers. By family, Anthropic and Perplexity both come in at Podia 100%, OpenAI at Podia 86.7% and Google at Podia 80%. Google is the one family where it does not lead. Every model except Gemini and Gemini 3.5 Flash has Podia as its leader.
The models name it for one job: downloads and memberships in one place. ChatGPT put it plainly: “If you want one platform to sell downloads and run a paid membership, I’d choose Podia.”
Podia’s own alternatives page makes the same case, calling Podia “the one platform where your website, courses, community, digital products, and email all live together”.
The same page lists the Mover plan at $42 a month billed annually.
Its gap between being named and being named first is 44 points, the smallest of the four most-named products. When a model lists Podia, it usually leads with it. The Podia record holds the answer-by-answer detail.
The alternatives below are named for narrower jobs: per-sale selling, cross-border tax handling, a full marketing system, ecommerce control, fan memberships and gamified communities.
1. Gumroad
Pick Gumroad instead of Podia if you sell standalone files and would rather pay per sale than carry a monthly plan.
Measured: named 41 of 50 (Gumroad 82%), first 11 of 50 (Gumroad 22%), average position 2.71. Category rank 2 of 16.
Gumroad is the one alternative every model names. Gemini named it in all five answers and made it the leader, the only model whose top name is Gumroad. The Anthropic family is just as consistent, at Gumroad 100%. The spread between named and named first says the models treat Gumroad as the standard second option rather than the lead. A buyer asking almost any assistant will see it, usually after the product listed first.
The Circle guide calls Gumroad “best for simple digital downloads”.

2. Payhip
Pick Payhip instead of Podia if you sell to buyers in several countries and want the sales-tax handling the recorded answers credit it with.
Measured: named 36 of 50 (Payhip 72%), first 5 of 50 (Payhip 10%), average position 2.86. Category rank 3 of 16.
Payhip is a split verdict. The Anthropic and Perplexity models treat it as a default, while the OpenAI models barely register it: GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-5.6 Luna named it once each, and ChatGPT not at all. So the assistant a buyer asks decides whether Payhip appears. Claude credits it with a specific job, saying it “handles digital sales tax, including EU and UK VAT, on behalf of sellers.” Its own site carries weight in those answers, since payhip.com is the most-cited vendor-owned host in the run. The models often cite Payhip’s own pages when they name it. It is also named far more often than it leads.

3. Kajabi
Pick Kajabi instead of Podia if you want funnels, email automation and courses in one system and have the budget for a higher plan.
Measured: named 31 of 50 (Kajabi 62%), first 4 of 50 (Kajabi 8%), average position 4.13. Category rank 4 of 16.
Kajabi splits the families sharply. Both Google models named it in all five answers, which makes it the Google family’s leader at Kajabi 100%, ahead of Podia. Claude did not name it once, and Claude Fable 5 did twice. Where it does appear, it sits lower in the answer than the three products above it. Which assistant a buyer uses decides whether Kajabi comes up at all.

Best for: established creators who want courses, community, funnels and coaching in one account.
4. Shopify
Pick Shopify instead of Podia if you want a full ecommerce store and are prepared to add apps for memberships.
Measured: named 21 of 50 (Shopify 42%), first 0 of 50 (Shopify 0%), average position 5.43. Category rank 5 of 16.
Shopify is named widely and never first. Nine of the ten models include it, and none names it more than three times in five. The models treat it as the heavyweight option for a creator who wants store control, then add a condition. Perplexity frames it that way and names the catch: “it usually needs apps for membership-style functionality.” The Anthropic models name it most often of the four families. None of the five captured Podia-alternatives pages mentions Shopify, so it is the one alternative on this page that comes from the models alone. For a buyer, the case for Shopify here rests on how the answers frame it, not on any guide.

Measured: named 15 of 50 (Patreon 30%), first 0 of 50 (Patreon 0%), average position 4.13. Category rank 6 of 16.
Patreon is an OpenAI-family answer. GPT-5.6 Sol named it in 4 of 5, and the family share is Patreon 66.7%. The Anthropic family barely touches it: Claude Opus 5 and Claude never named it, and Claude Fable 5 did twice. ChatGPT put it forward for a creator whose offer is “exclusive ongoing content + community”. So a buyer who asks an OpenAI model is far more likely to meet Patreon than one who asks Claude.

Skool is a Google-and-Perplexity answer. Both Gemini models named it in all five answers, giving the Google family Skool 100%. Perplexity named it twice and Sonar Reasoning Pro once. No OpenAI or Anthropic model named it at all. Gemini describes it as “Highly popular for its clean, gamified interface (leaderboards, levels) that encourages high member retention.” It ties Circle and Lemon Squeezy on 13 of 50 and ranks ahead of both on its single named-first answer.
The Miha Cacic guide heads its Skool entry “Best Alternative For Community Engagement and Retention”.

The models do not agree on a leader. Podia leads every OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity model. The two Google models break away: Gemini leads with Gumroad and Gemini 3.5 Flash with Payhip. At family level, Google’s leader is Kajabi.
The OpenAI models are the only family that names Patreon regularly, and they almost never name Payhip. The Anthropic models run the other way: Podia, Gumroad and Payhip in every answer, with Kajabi thin and Skool absent. The Perplexity models pair Podia with Payhip, and Gumroad drops to Gumroad 50% for that family because Sonar Reasoning Pro named it once. The Google models are the only ones to put Kajabi and Skool in every answer.
For a buyer, the practical reading is simple. Podia is the constant. The second name depends on which assistant you ask.

The panel is 10 models x 5 fixed prompts = 50 recorded answers, one answer per model-and-prompt pair. The run was recorded on 2 September 2026 for edition 2026-09. The category tracked 18 vendors and 16 were named. Ko-fi and Buy Me a Coffee were tracked and never named.

Thinkific is not one of the 18 vendors tracked in this category, and Teachable is named in 10 of 50 answers (Teachable 20%).
Those guides rank products for purchase. This page counts the names AI answers produce, per model, with the answers on record. It adds the per-model split, the named-first counts and the recorded quotes, which none of the captured pages carries.
What these counts cannot tell you
A count measures presence in recorded answers. It says nothing about product quality, support, uptime, pricing fairness or fit with your stack. Being named also differs from being recommended, since an answer can list a product only to warn against it.
The sample has limits of its own. Each model answered each prompt once. The run is one dated snapshot, edition 2026-09. Products are matched by name strings, so an unusual alias can be missed. Answers came through each model’s API, which can differ from the consumer chat app. The prompts are in English. They also ask about digital products and memberships, not courses, which shapes which products appear.
