## What Xata is

Xata is a Postgres platform for engineering teams and AI platforms building applications, previews and agent workflows. It provides isolated database branches for pull requests, previews and other development work. Pricing is based on capacity and deployment requirements rather than the number of branches created.

Xata creates production-like Postgres branches for each workflow. Its copy-on-write storage lets branches share parent data while storing only their changes. Idle branches can hibernate without using compute, then wake when they receive their first query. Teams can create and remove databases and branches through its API, command-line interface, GitHub, continuous integration systems or coding-agent integrations.
