## What Vespa is

Vespa is a distributed serving engine from Vespa.ai for developers building data-driven AI applications. It combines retrieval, ranking, machine-learning inference and real-time serving in one system.

It searches vector, text and structured data, then ranks results with mathematical functions or machine-learned models including ONNX and XGBoost. Functions run across clusters of nodes, with data distributed automatically. Vespa Cloud manages operational tasks including nodes, failover, encryption, certificates and operating-system patches.
