## What Perplexity is

Perplexity provides APIs for web research, question answering, search, model access and embeddings. It is for people building products and agent applications that need web-grounded information or language-model capabilities.

Its Agent API returns web-grounded answers with built-in citations and can use web search, URL fetching, sandboxes, MCP, finance search and people search. Its Search API returns ranked web results with filtering and real-time data. The Router API offers an OpenAI-compatible endpoint for open-weight models hosted by Perplexity. Its Embeddings API generates embeddings for semantic search and retrieval-augmented generation pipelines.
